Hello United Marriage Encounter Family!
We are Len and Adrienne DeWitt from Newtown, CT, and we’d love to introduce ourselves to you. We started our Marriage Encounter journey in 2005 when we experienced Engaged Encounter in NJ, prior to being married in 2007. Five years later, in 2010, we were Encountered with World Wide Marriage Encounter on Long Island, NY, where we became involved in our local CORE group until 2012 when the Lord moved us to CT.
We were Encountered with United Marriage Encounter on November 4-6, 2015 during a very dark valley in our marriage relationship. We had become unattached to one another, living separate lives under the same roof, and we knew we had to do something to reunite us again. The Lord guided us to UME in Rochester, NY (the birth place of UME); we chose to make Him the center of our marriage, and He worked a GREAT work in us that Weekend. Our marriage was saved and we began to live the way God had always intended us to – choosing to love every day.
God put Christian Marriage on our hearts that weekend and gave us our Purpose. In 2016, we began preparing to be a Team Couple, and in 2017 we teamed our first Weekend in Rochester with the same Team who had teamed our Weekend in 2015. It was a very special Weekend, indeed!
In 2020, at the start of the pandemic, the Lord asked us to serve on the UME/MESF International Board of Directors. Specifically, He asked us to serve with the Executive Committee as Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. We had no idea what an honor it would be to serve alongside our fellow Board members while making incredibly difficult policy decisions for the Ministry concerning COVID-19, but trusted that the Lord had placed each of us there for “such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
This past January, 2022, we stepped down from the Board in response to the Lord’s calling for a United Marriage Encounter Community in New England. Now, we continue the journey with Holy Spirit guiding us. Today, we lead an eCORE group, we are preparing to be an Executive Community Couple, and on November 4-6, 2022, UME-CT will have its first Weekend in West Cornwall, CT. We are so humbled to be used in this way to touch New England marriages. Not us, but Christ in us (Galatians 2:20)!
